Radio Barrio Centenario: A Community Radio on Every Neighbor’s Phone
A mobile app, web player and Admin Console that let a neighborhood radio broadcast around the clock.
01. The Challenge
A neighborhood radio runs on volunteers, a tight budget and an audience of all ages, including older adults. It had to reach the phone without losing the feeling that the station belongs to the neighborhood, and the team needed to run the schedule without a technician.
02. The Solution
We designed and built the whole platform: a React Native and Expo app with 24/7 streaming, background audio, reactions, votes and schedule; a Next.js Admin Console to manage shows, music blocks, votes and the broadcast engine; an upload flow for hosts’ recorded shows; and a browser player at radiobarriocentenario.cl.
03. The Result
A platform in daily operation, live as an Android beta. The station broadcasts continuously on app and web, and the volunteer team manages its own programming. In a community product, the technology works when it disappears.
